چکیده

Sound knowledge of various features of morphology of pedicles is required for accurate pedicle screw placement. Previous studies suggest variation in morphology of pedicles in different population groups. This prospective study was done to assess the morphological features of the pedicles in north Indian population using computerized tomography scans and Orthopaedic digital imaging software. The tranverse pedicle width, transverse pedicle angle and screw path length were measured at lower thoracic and lumbar levels and these values were compared with those of previous such studies.

[Morphometric analysis of cervical pedicles in a Mexican population].

BACKGROUND Knowledge of the morphometric anatomy of cervical pedicles is essential for the safe and accurate placement of pedicle screws during instrumentation of the cervical spine. Screw placement in the lumbar and thoracic vertebrae is considered as a safe practice, unlike the cervical vertebrae due to the risks involved. There are few reports on this technique. The little available informat...

Morphometrical dimensions of the sheep thoracolumbar vertebrae as seen on digitised CT images

The sheep spine is widely used as a model for preclinical research in human medicine to test new spinal implants and surgical procedures. Therefore, precise morphometric data are needed. The present study aimed to provide computed tomographic (CT) morphometry of sheep thoracolumbar spine. Five adult normal Merino sheep were included in this study. Sheep were anaesthetised and positioned in ster...

In vitro evaluation of pedicle screw loosening mechanism: a preliminary study on animal model

Materials and methods Eighteen vertebrae were harvested from the lumbar section of six porcine spines ranged from L1 to L3. All vertebrae were instrumented on both pedicles using pedicle screws. Quantitative CT scans were used before instrumentation in order to assess the bone density of each vertebra. Cyclic bending (toggling) load of ± 1mm displacement at 3Hz for 5000 cycles were assigned in ...

Thoracic and lumbar vertebrae morphology in Lenke type 1 female adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients

BACKGROUND Pedicle screws are widely used in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) surgeries. Pedicle screw malposition may lead to serious vascular and neurologic complications. Knowledge of the morphometric anatomy of the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae is essential for the surgeon while implanting pedicle screws. It has been reported that there is a reduction of pedicle width at the concavity ...
